On 18th August our Vice-President Mary Meredith died peacefully at the age of 95.  She was the widow of former president Percy Meredith who had joined the Wheelers just two years after the club was formed in 1928, and she and Percy were loyal supporters of the club for the rest of their lives.  For many years we used their premises at Swainshill as our club HQ.

Congratulations to Charlie Cook who, on an End-to-End ride in aid of Help For Heroes, made some diversions so that he could run up Snowdon, Scafel Pike and Ben Nevis on the way.

Would anyone still holding a club trophy which will need re-engraving for our forthcoming Annual Prize Presentation please return it to Chris Hughes as soon as possible.  The committee is also considering a slightly different format for the presentation this year, in order to attract the maximum number of our many members, so please offer your suggestions ...

Who would you like to nominate as our “Club Member of the Year”?  Suggestions please!

Would any member like to volunteer to train to qualify as an official club coach?  And rather more urgently, Chris Hughes is stepping down as Club Racing Secretary next year, so we need a replacement - as well as several volunteers to help with all the ancillary tasks such as setting out warning signs, E-mailing results out, writing press reports etc.  We have gained a lot of very capable and enthusiastic members in recent years, so this would be an opportunity to re-pay the work put in on your behalf by the present lot of hard-working club officials.  Why not discuss what the various tasks would involve with Chris or any other club official?

Our regular winter turbo training sessions re-start this month (see above).  Members only - £2 per session inc. tea & biccies.  Hall opens 6.45, sessions start 7.15 and last 1 hour approx.  You will need to bring a turbo trainer and your bike.  On 23 Sep there will be a brief outline of training and planning for newcomers and a RAMP test for all.  Details from Bill Berry or Chris.
